Google Doodle Gone Wrong

Colorful explosions and sparkles forming the American flag on top of headlines reading Mass shooting kills 5, At least 5 dead in Illinois shooting. What’s more American than that?

In celebration of the 4th of July, Google created a custom animation so that whenever someone looked up the phrase “4th of July”, a bunch of fireworks appeared in celebration.

The idea was lighthearted, but the result was quite the opposite, as the Day of Independence was marked by a mass shooting in Chicago, Illinois. At least 5 people were killed, with more than 30 injured.

Not even two months after the mass shooting at the elementary school in Uvalde, and in one of the biggest holidays for the country, this event makes people question the lack of gun regulations that allow dangerous individuals to purchase these types of weapons even more.

So, whenever someone used Google to look up “4th of July”, they would be bombarded with fireworks and sparkles over the headlines of the shooting in Chicago, resulting in a funny yet eerie image. It was first shared by BNO News on Twitter.

The shooting in Highland Park in Chicago is still under investigation, with the suspect currently in custody. The man was on top of a rooftop when he fired a high-powered rifle at hundreds of unsuspecting civilians in an Independence Day Parade. He was identified as Robert E. “Bobby”.

In the wake of the Uvalde shooting, the removal of Roe v. Wade, and the shooting in Chicago, many Americans wonder what they are celebrating. There is a big disconnect between the government and its people, shown by their lack of proper actions.
