Texas Progressives Raised $25 Million To Boost Democratic Candidates This November

The Texas Future Project, a progressive fundraising group, told the Texas Tribune that they have raised $25 million, looking to boost and consolidate the campaigns of the Democratic nominees in the electoral process of this year. Delilah Agho-Otoghile, executive director of Texas Future Project, said in an interview that the amount of money they have raised is incredibly relevant because it proves that Texas demographics are leaning towards liberal positions.

The goal of the heavy donors is to push specific agendas into the Texas Legislature. The list of the Texas Future Project’s beneficiaries includes organizations like Annie’s List and Planned Parenthood, which want to elect more Democratic politicians who are willing to protect access to abortion. Other groups like Jolt and LUPE are searching to consolidate and protect the rights of the Latino population. Among other organizations that have supported the Texas Future Project are the Transgender Education Network of Texas, MOVE Texas, Texas Freedom Network, and the Workers Defense Project.

Delilah Agho-Otoghile, who ran O’Rourke’s 2020 presidential campaign in Texas, said to the Tribune that although there is a lot of hope and optimism for the election in November, National circumstances favor the GOP. That’s why, she said, Texas Future Project has realistic expectations and is focused on understanding how to surpass the headwinds.
