How Masturbation And Sexual Abstention Are Now In The Sights Of The American Far Right.

The so-called NoNutNovember challenge has been a very popular trend in social media for a couple of years. The challenge, focused on young men, basically consists on avoiding mascurbating or having an orgasm during November. A lot of people make memes and jokes about this trend but a large number of far-right content creators and internet forums take this challenge very seriously. They believe that avoiding masturbation increases the testosterone levels, the concentrations and the physical performance.

But, how did this start? According to the journalist Daniel Soufi, the trend first appeared in a Reddit forum in 2011. A user named Alexander Rhodes posted that not masturbating during a period of 90 days could bring incredible physical benefits. Rhodes’ post received millions of views and started the No Nut November trend. Some of the users said that spending one entire month without masturbation could raise the testosterone levels up to 45%. That claim has no solid scientific evidence but a lot of online communities and influencers, like Canadian YouTuber Jordan Peterson, have already taken that claim as an unquestionable truth.

The problems with this trend is not only that is based on a premise that has not yet been confirmed by scientifics but also that avoiding masturbation in order to “become more men” or to have “more testosterone levels” could be very harmful for some young men that are starting their sexual lives.
