Jessica Cisneros Reaches $100,000 in Donations in the First 9 Hours of her Campaign

The 28-year-old immigrant rights attorney, Jessica Cisneros, is again running in the Democratic Primary to become the next Representative of the 28th Texas Congressional District. After a grueling 2020 campaign in which she came within four percentage points of unseating incumbent U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, Cisneros is hoping this time she will be able to defeat him.

Cuellar was named “Trump’s favorite Democrat” by Cisneros, who drew national attention, money, and support from some of the most prominent progressive figures, including U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. She is a member of the Justice Democrats, the progressive political group that launched the successful campaigns of well-known young leaders like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Cori Bush.

Cisneros already had the first major win of her 2022 bid, she was able to successfully raise over $100,000 during the first nine hours of her campaign. She broke the record to become the fastest Justice Democrat primary challenger to raise that amount, previously held by Rana Abdelhamid (a little over 10 hours).

She celebrated the accomplishment via Twitter, in a video appreciating all the help she received in the first hours after her announcement.
