Ken Paxton Celebrates Roe Vs Wade Overturn By Taking A Day Off

Attorney General of Texas Ken Paxton celebrated the overturning of Roe vs. Wade by taking a day off. On his Twitter he posted: “SCOTUS just overruled Roe & Casey, ending one of the most morally & legally corrupt eras in US history. Praise the Lord.”

In a 6 to 3 decision the U. S. Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, the precedent that made abortion legal in the country. 30 days from today, the states will decide if abortion should remain legal or not, according to Texas Standard. 

Texas is one of the states with more restrictive abortion laws. Even before the overturn of Roe vs Wade, many trigger laws difficulted the right to abortion. “The Heart-beat act” pushed by Governor Greg Abbott stated abortions from the sixth week -from the first heartbeat- were illegal.

Now, the right to end a pregnancy has fallen from a federal level to a state level, and 12 states of America are ready to ban any type of abortion. Last year Texas passed a law that stated abortion would be completely illegal if the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, according to the organization Texas Standard. 

This law called the Human Life Protection Act will take effect in 30 days and Ken Paxton is happy with the Supreme Court decision. This will leave by themselves thousands of Texan women. On average, 50,000 women perform an abortion per year in the state, according to the Guttmacher Institute. 

He also wrote in the same tweet “Abortion is now illegal in Texas. And today I’m closing my office—and making it an annual holiday—as a memorial to the 70 million lives lost bc of abortion.”
