“The Texas GOP’s attack on women is deadly.” This is how Beto O’Rourke, one of Texas most prominent politicians, started a new stand regarding Texa’s new abortion ban, and how this is complicating other types of medical decisions.
Beto took a strong stand. He posted an article that talks about how medical procedures and decisions are getting complicated. For example, continuing a pregnancy after a diagnosis of anencephaly carries additional health risks and, in rare cases, can result in miscarriage.
This is a risk for women all over Texas, and this will carry additional emotional trauma. Some experts argue the rule also makes it more difficult for doctors to make medical judgments when women seek treatment after a miscarriage.
Some medics told NPR that they are concerned about recommending patients to go outside of Texas for operations since the legislation enables civil lawsuits against anybody who “aides or abets” an illegal abortion, with fines starting at $10,000 for breaches.
Beto ended his statement on a strong note:
“It is complicating life or death medical decisions by forcing women to carry out unviable, dangerous pregnancies — in a state that already has one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the country.”
