Slaton Files Anti-trans Amendment, Anti-abortion Bills in the Legislature

The Texas Legislature has seen a number of harmful bills come through this session, and the latest one is an amendment proposed by State Rep. Bryan Slaton, which aimed to make the CPS bill consider it child abuse if a parent permits a sex change procedure for a transgender child.

Rep. Victoria Neave raised a point of order to stop it from being passed, and thankfully the nonsense amendment has officially been axed. “The amendment is not on the same subject as the bill,” said Speaker of the Texas House, Dade Phelan.

Slaton also proposed a bill that attempts to make abortion punishable by death for both the mother and the doctor who performs the procedure.

“It is time for Texas to protect the natural right to life for the tiniest and most innocent Texans, and this bill does just that,” Slaton said. “It’s time Republicans make it clear that we actually think abortion is murder…unborn children are dying at a faster rate in Texas than COVID patients, but Texas isn’t taking the abortion crisis seriously.”

Similar bills have been filed in the past but haven’t gone through, unfortunately, it seems that this year’s Legislature continues to try and impose rules on women about what to do with their bodies. Lt. Gov. Patrick has made it a priority for his agenda to push for more abortion restrictions in the state.
