In an official statement released by The White House on Friday, June 19th, the Biden’s announced that their dog, Champ, had passed away peacefully at home.
Historically, the White House had a tradition of having a pet, this lasted over 100 years until Trump took office. Joe Biden restored this tradition when he took office, bringing to the White House his two German Shepherds, Champ and Major, and a cat.
In 2008, the Biden family got a puppy from a breeder, after he was elected vice president with the Obama administration. He named it Champ because President Biden’s father had told him growing up, “Get up, champ,” when his life was challenging. Their other dog, Major, was adopted from a foster home managed by the Delaware Humane Association, in 2018.
The sad news was announced via the official Twitter account of the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, where she deeply regretted the passing of her dog.
