Wake Up Houston, It’s Tyrod Taylor’s Show Now

It was a magical Sunday evening for Houstonians. After almost two years of being the national embarrassment of football, the Texans delivered a strong performance and proved to the entire NFL that they are not the worst team and are ready for the rebuild.

Bill O’Brien’s rule of terror as the Texans General Manager and Coach finally came to an end last season after an embarrassing 0-4 start and after executing one of the worst trades in sports history (DeAndre Hopkins (one of the league’s best Wide Receivers and a 4th round pick in exchange for David Johnson and a 2nd round pick). After many years of dismantling the team and creating a culture that didn’t encourage players, Nick Casserio and David Culley as the team’s new General Manager and Coach respectively, had an enormous challenge ahead of them. It seems that it’s working.

The Texans debuted at NRG Stadium on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, led by the 1st overall pick Trevor Lawrence and new head coach Urban Meyer. Las Vegas and experts favored the Jaguars (-3), claiming that the Texans were set to become the worst team in the league, but they weren’t expecting that the new face of the franchise, Tyrod Taylor, was going to deliver an excellent game.

Texans new QB, signed this offseason, threw for 291 yards, 2 touchdowns and a 112.1 passer rating, putting up a strong performance and showing confidence as the man in charge of the Texans offense. The ground game also delivered, as the 3 starting Running Backs scored a touchdown each. Maybe the biggest surprise is how well the defense played, as they produced multiple turnovers and just in one game equaled the same amount of interceptions as all of last season.

It’s a new day in Houston, as the franchise finally has all of their draft picks, and some salary cap available for the next offseason. The team played well and is at the top of the AFC South. How long will they last there? Nobody knows, but for now, Texans fans all over the world can enjoy a well deserved win and a new era for the football team.
