New Longhorns QB, Hudson Card, has Stellar Debut

When Sam Ehlinger left the Valero Alamo Bowl, and afterwards, when he was declared eligible for the NFL Draft, a big question surged for University of Texas coaches and team, who will lead the Longhorns offense next year?

Ehlinger had a very successful career with UT. He threw for more than 11,000 yards and 93 touchdowns in his Texas career and rushed for 1,912 yards and 33 scores. Only Colt McCoy has more career completions, throwing yards, total offense, passing touchdowns, and touchdowns than him, that’s why his replacement was a big challenge for Coach Sarkisian.

UT’s football program is one of the largest in the country. The Longhorns also have one of the biggest fan bases in the United States, so when Hudson Card suited up to become the next QB of Texas, he had a lot of pressure to succeed.

He managed it. Hudson Card’s debut as the Texas Longhorns’ starting quarterback against the Ragin Cajuns was a success and everything fans hoped for. He started off slow, failling on his first drive with some bad throws. But after that, he settled in and led Texas to score on four of their next five drives.

Hudson Card had an impressive camp, impressing Coach Sarkisian who made him starting Quarterback on Week 1. He didn’t disappoint in the game and is set for a promising first season.

Card and the Longhorns will continue their journey and will face Arkansas in front of a packed crowd for their first road test. The game will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday in Fayetteville.
