Former University of Texas star quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, who was drafted in this year’s NFL Draft took his first step into history by completing a pass to his former teammate from Westlake Nation, Kylen Granson.
The Longhorn hero from the Lone Star State was chosen in the sixth round by the Indianapolis Colts with pick Nº 218th overall. He is fighting to become the second QB in the Colts roster, a backup to Carson Wentz, who got injured earlier this month in training camp.
Ehlinger took the field on the third quarter, on 2nd down and 9, he found his former High School teammate and completed a beautifully thrown pass for a first down and a couple more yards.
The Longhorn eventually threw an interception a few plays later, but eventually rebounded and ended up leading a magnificent game, ending up completing 10 passes out of 15, for 155 yards and that lone interception. He also led the Colts in rushing with 30 yards on eight carries.
Sam missed the endzone in Sunday’s game, but made some amazing throws that ended up giving the Colts their first win of preseason. His longest completion was a 47 yard pass to Tarik Black, helping his team win 21-18 on a last play winning field goal.
The former Texas player is doing his work and showing that the competition to become Wentz’s backup is far from over.
