Davis Mills Ready for his First NFL Start

As the Texans are getting ready to host the 2-0 Carolina Panthers for Week 3 Thursday Night Football, they are set to give the rookie Davis Mills the first NFL start of his career. 

The Texans’ sole prime-time game of the season is on Thursday since the NFL and its television and streaming partners had such low expectations for the team. However, they exceeded expectations as they defeated the Jaguars and were close to the Browns through the whole game before injuries started to kick in. 

After Tyrod Taylor got injured on Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns (and afterward entered the Injury Reserve) and Deshaun Watson continues his bid to get out of Houston, Davis Mills was the next Quarterback on the depth chart.

After drafting him in the 3rd round of the last draft, the Texans must determine whether they believe Mills can be their long-term quarterback. Whether they believe he can or can’t have a huge impact on the 2022 draft. 

Mills was Nick Caserio’s first pick in his first season as General Manager. He had little to no experience as a starter at Stanford but showed promise. The objective was to give him plenty of time to study from offensive coordinator Tim Kelly and passing game coordinator/quarterback coach Pep Hamilton while he was behind Taylor. But with Tyrod’s injury, it’s Mill’s time now.

Phillip Lindsay, running back of the Texans who scored a touchdown on Sunday’s game, encouraged fans about Mills first start “You have to understand, this team is an older team, so we’ve been in the league for a while,” said Lindsay, who played his first three seasons with the Broncos. “It’s about being even-keeled. When you’re doing well and you’re winning, you’ve got to stay the same. When you’re losing sometimes, you’ve got to stay the same.”

The game begins at 8:20 E.T. and will be an exciting opportunity for fans to see Davis Mills first start in the NFL, with a game plan developed for him and all the weapons available.
