Austin Woman Accused Of Killing Pro Cyclist Captured

Kaitlin Armstrong, the woman accused of killing pro cyclist Moriah “Mo” Wilson in a shooting in East Austin, was arrested by authorities in Costa Rica last Wednesday.

The cycling community was shaken by the news of the death of Mo Wilson, a pro cyclist, who was fatally shot in Austin last May. Kaitlin Armstrong had been on the run from the authorities ever since, for around 43 days.

She fled Austin just three days after the shooting of Wilson, briefly after being mistakenly released from custody by the police due to paperwork discrepancy involving her birthdate, according to Det. Richard Spitler in a news conference last May.

An arrest warrant issued on May 17 investigators stated that a video surveillance tape showed a vehicle driven by Armstrong pulling up to the residence Wilson was staying in Austin.

That same day, police responded to a 911 call from the residence. When they got there, they found Moriah Wilson unconscious and bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the U.S. Marshals, they traced Armstrong’s escape route after first locating her black jeep, which she sold to a CarMax dealership in South Austin.

Then they found her next steps from her use of a fraudulent passport to fly through United Airlines from the Newark International Airport in New Jersey to San Jose, Costa Rica on May 18. U.S. law enforcement worked alongside Costa Rica authorities to locate and arrest the woman last Wednesday at a hostel on Santa Teresa Beach.

Authorities stated that the woman will be deported and returned to the United States to continue investigations and trials as needed.
