GOP New Plank Platform Aims To Ban Sexual Education

Last Saturday in Houston, 5000 GOP delegates gathered at the George Washington Forum to vote on 250 plank platforms that will reflect the goals and values of the party. Among them is one proposal about banning sexual education at schools.

This proposal the party voted on is not new on the Republican agenda in Texas but it still causes controversy. The banning includes preventing teachers from teaching about sexual orientation and gender identification.

“Education is about reading, writing, math, science, history, and fine arts. Maybe some foreign language and PE. … Schools aren’t the social educators of our kids.” said Cindi Castilla, president of the Texas Eagle Forum on this subject.

On the other side, Zeph Capo, president of the Texas chapter of the American Federation of Teachers told the Texas Tribune that the Republican party is stepping out of line and close to violating Title XI, which protects against sex-based discrimination.

Another similar Plank stated the importance of including in the educational program the subject of “dignity of the preborn human”. These programs are supposed to prevent abortion by correcting the biological misconceptions with “ethical values”.

These platform planks along with the other 248 that the GOP conference came up with are now in the process of certification in Austin.
