Beto O’Rourke Two Points Behind Abbott According to Poll

The candidate for the Democratic party, Beto O’Rourke, is just two points behind republican candidate Greg Abbott on the run for the elections for governance of the state of Texas, According to poll results published by Lyceum. This is the closest the candidates have appeared in a poll. The poll was conducted from March 11-20.

42% of the 926 registered voters chose Abbott, 40% chose O’Rourke, and the remaining 18% stated they were still undecided. Beto is most popular among young voters and black women, whilst the republican candidate is popular among older white men. This aligns with what each have pursued during their run: the first advocating for reproductive rights, public school aid, and diversity, the second maintaining a classic conservative image.

It is important to note that polls, while informative, could not show the exact reality of the voting tendencies in a candidacy. A poll published a few days later by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation showed in their results an 8-point difference (50% of voters chose Abbott, 42% chose O’Rourke). Chandler France, a reporter for the Beaumont Enterprise, the candidate for the democratic party needs to continue in the lead for Hispanic voters in order to be able to win in November.

The best thing to do is to remain aware of the polls that come in and their results and to analyze who is voting for who. As stated by Spectrum News 1, there are still a lot of undecided voters (18% according to the Lyceum poll) who could still turn the election results.
