In a news conference in Edinburgh, 35 family members of Uvalde shooting victims gave their support to Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke. These family members pointed out that Greg Abbott’s administration didn’t take enough actions on gun control following the deaths of 19 students and two teachers.
“It happened to me, it can happen to you. And this pain, it’ll bring you to your knees.”, said Kimberly Rubio, mother of Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Rubio, a 10-years old who died in the Elementary School shooting in May. “Had Abbott prioritized the lives of his most vulnerable constituents over guns, then I wouldn’t be here today. I would be at home with Lexi,” she said. “Vote for Beto because a vote for Abbott is a grave mistake.”
The press conference was held in Edinburg, the city where the debate between Abbott and Beto happened last September 30. The families of the victims, then, traveled 280 miles and nearly five hours to give their support to Beto. They heavily criticized Abbott’s lack of support against gun control laws.
