Former combat veteran MJ Hegar has defeated Texas State Senator Royce West in the Democratic Primary Run-off to challenge long-time Senator John Cornyn, on November 3rd. John Cornyn has represented Texas in the United States Senate since 2002 and is seeking his fourth term.
With 100% of polling locations reporting, Hegar secured 52.1% of the vote or 498,180 votes. She now aims to unite Royce West voters to her campaign in hopes of being the first Texas Democrat to win a statewide ballot in decades. Hegar received noticeable endorsements during her primary run-off election including from EMILY’s List, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Human Rights Campaign, Moms Demand Action, and more.
