This week, El Paso County joins other Texas counties to offer countywide voting in November. County clerks and election administrators around the state promote the countywide polling locations as a way to stop disenfranchising Texas voters. The simplifying of precinct polling place locations to countywide vote centers, could raise voter turnout across the state. Texas five largest counties have been offering countywide voting since 2012 (Travis) and 2019 (Harris, Dallas, Tarrant and Bexar). During the 2019 Legislative session, efforts by Democrats to expand access to voting largely fell on deaf ears as the Republican controlled committees responsible for election oversight passed fewer than ten pieces of legislation authored by Democrats.
