Beto O’Rourke Considering Running for Texas Governor

“It’s something I’m gonna think about” replied O’Rourke to radio host Buzz Adams’ after being questioned if he would consider running for Governor of Texas. It looks like the former US Representative’s political career is far from over.

“I want to make sure we have someone in the highest office in our state who’s going to make sure that all of us are OK,” said O’Rourke on a recent radio interview for KLAQ, a radio station based in El Paso.

O’Rourke also mentioned that he believes Texas has “suffered perhaps more than any other” state during the COVID-19 pandemic and condemned Gov. Greg Abbott for his “complete indifference” towards local leaders who are actually trying to save Texans lives.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman, Gilberto Hinojosa, confirmed that running for state government is something O’Rourke is definitely considering. “I know he’s thinking about it,” Hinojosa told the Austin American Statesman. “He’s got to decide what’s best for him and his family.”

It’s worth mentioning that O’Rourke raised a record-breaking $80.4 million in his 2018 U.S. Senate campaign, double of what his Republican counterpart U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz managed to raise. The race for the coveted senate sit gained national attention after becoming the closest statewide election in Texas in a generation of all-Republican senators. O’Rourke lost the election by only 2.6 percentage points.
