U.S. Authorities Have Arrested Around 2.3 Million People In The Southern Border During The 2022

U.S. authorities have arrested around 2.3 million people in the southern border during the 2022 fiscal year. The biggest  registered number of detentions in one year, according to Biden administration officials.

Those 2.3 million detentions exceed last year’s already record number of 1.7 million. Although, as the officials explained, some of the detainees included some people apprehended more than once.

This record number of people detained at the border is part of an historic wave of migration coming not only from Mexico and Central America but from Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela. “Failing communist regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba are driving a new wave of migration across the Western Hemisphere, including the recent increase in encounters at the southwest U.S. border,” Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Chris Magnus said in a statement.
