The Texas-Mexican border has been a very dangerous place for migrants to cross. In early September, nine migrants drowned trying to cross the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass and in June, 53 migrants died from heat exposure and dehydration in the back of a commercial truck abandoned on a roadside near San Antonio. This Thursday, The New York Times reported that two migrants were shot near El Paso while crossing. One of them died and the other was taken to a nearby hospital.
The suspects of the crime are two brothers, Michael Sheppard, 60, a local jail warden, and Mark Sheppard, also 60. According to the report, a group of four migrants were walking when they decided to hide behind a structure. At that moment the brothers pulled up in a pick up truck and opened fire on them. He hit one of them in the head and the other was hit in the stomach.
The brothers were arrested by the Texas Rangers and the FBI is currently investigating the origin of the crime.
