In the midst of the bipartisan efforts to create a gun safety package in congress, John Cornyn was received in the Houston’s GOP convention with a big “Boo”.
Cornyn is a senator from Texas who is leading the negotiations on gun control at the congress after the Uvalde Mass Shooting. During his speech at the convention he received many more boo’s from the Republican delegates that disapproved of his actions, according to the Washington Post.
In response, Senator John Cornyn blamed his unpopularity on the misinformation of his actions. He clarified he is only supporting mental health resources and red flag laws, according to CNN and recommended the audience to enter his website and stop believing rumors on Twitter.
“Democrats pushed for an assault weapons ban, I said no. They tried to get a new three-week mandatory waiting period for all gun purchases, I said no. Universal background checks, magazine bans, licensing requirements, the list goes on and on and on. And I said no, no, 1,000 times no.”
There are still sticking points the parties need to resolve to push forward the gun safety package and the negotiations are getting slow. The Republican congressman fears the discussion may collapse if the subject drags on, according to CNN.
