On Which Books is HBO’s House Of The Dragon Based On

HBO’s House of the Dragon is probably the most awaited show of the year. The Game of Thrones prequel cast includes names like Matt Smith, Milly Alcock and Emily Carey and the first episode of the show was watched by nearly 10 million people. But, as the plot continues to evolve, there is a question that remains unanswered in some of the viewers, that is: on which books is House of the Dragon based on?

First of all it is important to point out that the events of House of the Dragon happened 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. George R. R. Martin’s novels include several chapters in which he develops the story of the Targaryen dynasty, but according to Martin, the House of the Dragon script is mainly based on Fire and Blood, a book published in 2018 that tells the complete history of the Targaryens. Fire and Blood is not part of the original A Song of Ice and Fire series. It is a novel Martin wanted to publish after the end of the series but the material became so big he decided to publish it before the A Song of Ice and Fire final novel.
