Texas Businessmen Donate Vaccines for Children in Mexican Border State

The solidarity and kindness of Texas were shown again this week, as Texan business owners of companies that operate in Mexico donated 1,000 Pfizer vaccines so that the children of their workers could get inoculated. 

Thanks to the donation, the first mass immunization of Mexican minors against the coronavirus will be carried out today. Children and adolescents between 12 and 17 years old from the municipality of Piedras Negras will be transferred in school buses, with the support of the Government of Coahuila (a Mexican border state) to Maverick County, Texas to receive the first dose.

Mexico has accumulated 72,000 infected children and 702 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, according to official figures. Even so, Mexico’s policy at the moment is to not vaccinate children, even as they gave emergency authorization for the application of the Pfizer vaccine to Children between 12 and 15. The President of the country, Andrés Manuel López Obrador said it in a press conference earlier this month:

“It is not to see, it is that we do not want to vaccinate them, it is that the WHO is not recommending it. So if it is necessary, we are going to do it but we must not allow ourselves to be manipulated, we do not know what interests there are because, well, any pharmaceutical company, any store, any business, what is their mission? Sell. But we have to act with criteria is what we are doing “

To overcome the national policy of not vaccinating children, the local government of Coahuila and the National Export Manufacturing and Maquiladora Industry Council (Index) underpinned the negotiations with Maverick County so the minors could get inoculated.
