San Antonio Sues Gov. Abbott over Prohibition on Mask Mandates

As Gov. Abbott continues to fail fighting coronavirus in Texas, cities are trying to take back control of the COVID-19 situation and measures.

Earlier today, Mayor Ron Nirenberg, announced via Twitter that the City of San Antonio and Bexar County had filed a lawsuit against Gov. Abbott’s insane control of the coronavirus measures in Texas. With this, Mayor Ron is trying to take back control to be able to address COVID-19 properly, as Abbott hasn’t been able to.

The complaint was also detailed in a news statement issued on Tuesday morning. It seeks a temporary restraining order to prevent the governor’s most recent emergency order from being enforced. If the court agrees, this would allow the San Antonio Bexar County Health Authority to order a mask mandate, immediately requiring masks in public schools and quarantine if an unvaccinated kid is found in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

“As the school year begins, the health of our students, especially those under 12 who are not eligible to be vaccinated, are being put at risk. The pandemic is not over.  We need to continue to utilize every tool we have to combat the very contagious delta variant. We have come too far to allow our students to be super spreaders and put more lives at risk,” said Judge Wolff, regarding the control the county and the city of San Antonio are trying to take back.
