Democrats Rip Into Abbott for Lifting Mask Order Statewide

Governor Greg Abbott has officially signed an executive order to lift the mask mandate and to reopen every business at 100 percent in Texas. A premature move to say the least, considering not even 10 percent of the people of Texas has received the COVID-19 vaccine and there are still at least 200 deaths per day in the state.

“It is now time to open Texas 100%,” Abbott said during an interview in Lubbock, “people and businesses don’t need the state telling them how to operate” any longer.

Reactions from other prominent political leaders in the state were soon to follow, condemning Abbott’s actions and accusing him of leading the state into a disastrous future.

Former US Representative and Abbott’s potential political adversary for the upcoming election, Beto O’Rourke called the order a death warrant for Texas.

Likewise, New York Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez called out the governor’s decision for endangering those who are most vulnerable and potentially putting the whole country at risk.

Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro called the decision reckless and dangerous, accusing Abbott of putting politics over Texan’s lives.

Houston Mayor, Sylvester Turner called on the Texas Legislature to speak up and hold the Governor accountable for such a hasty move.

James Talarico joined the discussion by posting a pair of ironic tweets, saying Abbott’s new plan was endorsed by hand-soap manufacturers and Zoom.

Other notable figures who are not part of the nation’s political scene expressed their disagreement with the decision, such as Stephen King and Michale McKean.
